Terms and conditions

Read these before you book a device in. They are the terms printed on the book-in form you sign at the counter, so you know the fee, the 48 hours to collect and the warranty before you hand anything over.

  • The assessment fee is paid upfront, in cash or by instant EFT.

Booking in and diagnosis

Condition and contents at book-in

  • Technician must inspect and record the visible condition before acceptance. Existing damage, missing parts, liquid exposure, corrosion, broken seals, cracks, dents, scratches, burn marks, missing screws, missing covers and other abnormalities should be recorded and, where possible, photographed. The client confirms the condition recorded with their initials.

Evaluation and diagnostic authorisation

When you sign the book-in form, you confirm:

  1. I authorise Static PC Repairs to inspect, test, open, dismantle and diagnose the item where reasonably necessary to determine the fault and repair requirements.
  2. I understand that an evaluation/diagnostic examination may reveal additional or unrelated faults that were not apparent at intake. A diagnosis is not a guarantee that the item is repairable or economically repairable.
  3. The evaluation/diagnostic fee is payable for the time, labour, equipment and expertise required to inspect and diagnose the item. Unless otherwise agreed in writing, this fee is non-refundable.
  4. Where a power fault or other fundamental fault prevents meaningful testing, I authorise the business to carry out reasonable diagnostic work necessary to determine the underlying fault. Additional repair work requiring material expenditure will be communicated to the client where practicable.
  5. I understand that diagnostic testing can sometimes cause a pre-existing, weakened or intermittent component to fail completely, particularly where an item has liquid damage, corrosion, physical damage, electrical/surge damage, overheating or prior repair/modification.

Data, passwords and personal information

  • The client is responsible for backing up all data before handing an item to the business. The business is not responsible for loss, corruption or inaccessibility of data resulting from the repair, diagnosis, failure of storage media or circumstances beyond the business’s reasonable control.
  • The client must provide only passwords/access information reasonably required to perform the authorised service. Where possible, sensitive personal information should be removed before submission.

Quotes and repairs

Repair authorisation and quotations

  • No quotation constitutes a guarantee that the item will be repairable. A quotation is based on the information and condition reasonably ascertainable at the time of evaluation.
  • If additional faults are discovered after approval of a repair, the business may require further authorisation and/or payment before continuing with additional work.
  • Once repair work, special-order parts or other chargeable work has been authorised by the client, charges incurred may be payable even if the item subsequently proves to have further faults or becomes uneconomical to repair, subject to applicable law.
  • Parts replaced during a repair may be retained by the business unless the client requests their return before the repair is completed and this is reasonably practicable.
  • Declining a repair does not automatically cancel or refund an evaluation/diagnostic fee already incurred. Any refund, credit or waiver will only apply where agreed in writing or required by law.

Liability and pre-existing damage

  • The client acknowledges that electronic equipment may contain hidden, intermittent or pre-existing faults which cannot always be identified at intake.
  • The business will take reasonable care of items while they are in its possession. The business does not accept responsibility for faults or damage caused by pre-existing conditions, liquid ingress, corrosion, electrical surge/lightning, unstable power, physical impact, misuse, unauthorised prior repairs/modifications, or other causes outside the business’s reasonable control, except where liability cannot lawfully be excluded.
  • Where an item is already damaged, non-functional or supplied with missing components, the business cannot guarantee that diagnostic or repair work will restore the item to its original condition.

Payment, collection and storage

  • All approved repair charges and applicable fees are due before the item is released, unless a different written arrangement has been agreed.
  • Items must be collected promptly once the client has been notified that they are ready or that the business cannot proceed with the repair.
  • Where an item remains uncollected after the applicable collection period communicated by the business, storage charges may apply. Any disposal or sale of an uncollected item will be handled in accordance with applicable South African law and any required notices.
  • The client remains responsible for outstanding lawful charges incurred in relation to the item, including authorised repair work and applicable storage charges.

Payment, collection and storage terms

Important legal notice

  1. Confirmation of repairs. Once the customer has authorised and/or confirmed the repair quotation, the repair shall be deemed accepted and the customer becomes liable for payment of the full invoiced amount upon completion of the repair.
  2. Payment due. Full payment is due within 48 (forty-eight) hours of notification that the repair has been completed or that the item is ready for collection.
  3. Late payment charge. Should payment not be received within the prescribed 48-hour period, an additional 15% late payment charge shall automatically be added to the outstanding repair balance. This charge is intended to recover administrative and collection costs and shall form part of the total amount due.
  4. Storage fees. Any repaired item that remains uncollected after the initial 48-hour collection period shall incur a storage fee of R40.00 per calendar day. Storage charges shall accumulate daily until the account has been settled in full and the item has been collected.
  5. Abandoned property. Where an item remains unpaid and/or uncollected for a period exceeding 30 (thirty) days from the original book-in date, the item shall be deemed abandoned to the extent permitted by applicable law. Static PC Repairs reserves the right to sell, dispose of, or otherwise realise the item in order to recover outstanding repair charges, storage fees, administrative costs, and any other lawful costs incurred. Any remaining balance, where legally required, shall be dealt with in accordance with applicable law.
  6. Customer acknowledgement. By booking an item in for evaluation or repair, the customer confirms that they have read, understood, and accepted these terms and conditions and agrees to be bound by them.
  7. Reservation of rights. Static PC Repairs expressly reserves all rights and remedies available under South African law. These terms do not limit any other legal rights or remedies available to the business.

Please note: Customers are encouraged to collect and pay for completed repairs promptly to avoid additional charges.
